It has become a place with a functioning morning shift, a late-afternoon aperitivo hour, and a grab-and-go counter that competes with a specialty grocery run. What Actually Opened, and Where It Sits
The largest arrival is The Purple Pig, whose Oak Brook location opened at Oakbrook Center with a soft opening in early March 2026 and began taking reservations the following Monday. The space is not a scaled-down suburban outpost. It occupies 11,700 square feet in a former furniture showroom near Macy's, with a centrally located skylight and a 200-plus seat main dining room and bar. A high-performance Josper oven and a live hearth anchor the kitchen, with charcoal-fired cooking used across meats, seafood and vegetables. Two private dining areas are built in for celebrations and corporate gatherings, and a 60-seat patio was scheduled to open in May.
Ownership matters here because it explains the ambition of the buildout. The Oak Brook eatery is owned by Marianna Bannos, her father Tom Shubalis, James Beard award-winner and Michelin-starred chef Tony Mantuano, and his wife, wine and hospitality pro Cathy Mantuano. The Purple Pig's beverage program leans into Mediterranean drinking traditions, with vermouths, spritzes, amari and low-ABV cocktails, and a wine list that emphasizes Italy with curated selections from Greece, Spain, France and the U.S.. The restaurant offers a daily happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m., which turns the 3 p.m. slot at Oakbrook Center into something other than a shopping break.
The Marketplace format also changes what a small errand at the mall looks like. A resident stopping in for a coat return can now leave with a house-made gelato, a slice, or a bottle from a curated list, without booking a table. That is closer to a specialty grocer's cadence than a restaurant's, and it is the biggest shift in day-to-day utility the center has seen in a while.
STK, and the Evening End of the Barbell
At the other end of the day, STK brings big-city dining energy to Oak Brook and pairs premium steaks and signature cocktails with seafood, including a Maple-Rubbed Salmon served with pickled cherry tomatoes, piquillo broccolini and a bright olive dressing. That reads as pure special-occasion positioning, and it is. What it does for the center's identity is complete a barbell: Wildberry at one end of the clock, STK at the other, Purple Pig and its Marketplace bridging the middle.
The three restaurants collectively answer a question residents have been quietly asking for a few years, which is whether Oakbrook Center could hold weekday utility outside of the shops. It can now.

The center's Friday programming shifted to meet the new dining lineup. Live on the Lawn runs every Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a free music series that lets guests grab a bite from a favorite spot and enjoy live performances under the summer sky, with shops and restaurants steps away. That timing is meaningful. A 6:30 seating at The Purple Pig, a walk over to the lawn, and back for dessert or an aperitivo at the bar until 11 p.m. is a Friday routine that did not exist a year ago.

The Purple Pig arrived into a crowded dining scene that includes Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, RH Rooftop Restaurant and Roka Akor, all a few minutes away.
